[요한복음18장]

예수님이 체포되심

18 예수님은 기도를 마치시고 제자들과 함께 기드론 [a]골짜기를 건너 맞 은편에 있는 동산으로 들어가셨다.

2 거기는 예수님이 제자들과 가끔 모이던 곳이어서 그분을 팔아 넘기려는 유다도 알고 있었다.

3 유다가 한 떼의 로마 군인들과 그리고 대제사장들과 바리새파 사람들이 보낸 성전 경비병들을 데리고 그 곳에 왔는데 그들은 등과 횃불과 무기를 가지고 있었다.

4 예수님은 자기가 당할 모든 일을 아시고 앞으로 나오시며 “너희가 누구를 찾느냐?” 하고 물으셨다.

5 그들이 “나사렛 예수를 찾고 있소” 하고 대답하자 예수님은 “내가 바로 그 사람이다” 하고 말씀하셨다. 그때 예수님을 팔아 넘기려는 유다도 그들과 함께 서 있었다.

6 그들은 “내가 바로 그 사람이다” 라고 하신 예수님의 말씀에 놀라 뒷걸음을 치다가 땅바닥에 넘어졌다.

7 예수님이 다시 그들에게 “너희가 누구를 찾느냐?” 하고 물으시자 그들은 “나사렛 예수요” 하고 대답하였다.

8 그래서 예수님이 그들에게 말씀하셨다. “나는 너희에게 내가 바로 그 사람이라고 말하였다. 너희가 나를 찾는다면 이 사람들은 가게 하라.”

9 예수님이 이렇게 말씀하신 것은 “아버지께서 내게 주신 사람은 내가 하나도 잃지 않았습니다” 라는 말씀이 이루어지도록 하기 위해서였다.

10 이때 시몬 베드로가 칼을 뽑아 대제사장의 종, 말고의 오른쪽 귀를 쳐서 잘라 버렸다.

11 그러자 예수님이 베드로에게 “네 칼을 도로 칼집에 꽂아라. 아버지께서 내게 주신 고난의 잔을 내가 마셔야 하지 않겠느냐?” 하고 말씀하셨다.

12 그래서 로마 군인들과 그들의 [b]지휘관과 유대인의 성전 경비병들이 예수님을 잡아 묶어서

13 먼저 안나스에게 끌고 갔다. 안나스는 그 해의 대제사장인 가야바의 장인이었으며

14 가야바는 유대인들에게 한 사람이 죽어 온 백성을 살리는 것이 더 유익하다고 조언해 준 사람이었다.

15 시몬 베드로와 다른 제자 하나가 예수님을 뒤따랐다. 그 제자는 대제사장과 잘 아는 사이였으므로 예수님과 함께 그 집 안뜰까지 들어갔으나

16 베드로는 혼자 대문 밖에 서 있었다. 대제사장과 잘 아는 그 제자는 다시 나와 문지기 여자에게 말하여 베드로를 데리고 들어갔다.

17 이 문지기 여종이 베드로에게 “당신도 이 사람의 제자가 아니오?” 하고 묻자 “나는 아니오” 하고 베드로가 대답하였다.

18 날이 추워 종들과 경비병들이 불을 피우고 둘러서서 쬐고 있었다. 그래서 베드로도 그들과 함께 서서 불을 쬐었다.

19 대제사장이 예수님께 제자들과 그의 가르침에 대해 묻자

20 예수님은 이렇게 대답하셨다. “나는 터놓고 세상에 말하였다. 내가 언제나 유대인들이 다 모이는 회당과 성전에서 가르치고 비밀리에 말한 것은 아무것도 없는데

21 어째서 나에게 묻느냐? 내가 무슨 말을 했는지 들은 사람들에게 물어 보아라. 그들은 내가 한 말을 알고 있다.”

22 그러자 곁에 섰던 한 경비병이 예수님의 뺨을 치며 “대제사장에게 대답하는 태도가 그게 뭐냐?” 하였다.

23 예수님은 그에게 “내가 말을 잘못했다면 잘못한 증거를 대라. 그렇지 않고 내가 바른 말을 했다면 어째서 네가 나를 치느냐?” 하고 말씀하셨다.

24 안나스는 예수님을 묶은 그대로 대제사장 가야바에게 보냈다.

25 시몬 베드로가 서서 불을 쬐고 있는데 사람들이 그에게 “당신도 저 사람의 제자가 아니오?” 하고 물었다. 그래서 베드로는 “나는 아니오” 하고 딱 잡아떼었다.

26 이때 베드로에게 귀를 잘린 종의 친척 되는 대제사장의 다른 종이 “당신이 그 사람과 함께 동산에 있는 것을 내가 보았는데도 아니라고 우길 셈이오?” 하였다.

27 베드로가 다시 모르는 일이라고 시치미를 떼자 곧 닭이 울었다.

빌라도 앞에 선 예수님

28 이른 아침 [c]유대인 지도자들은 가야바의 집에서 예수님을 끌고 총독의 관저로 갔다. 그러나 그들은 더럽혀지지 않고 유월절 음식을 먹으려고 총독의 관저 안으로 들어가지 않았다.

29 그래서 빌라도가 밖으로 나와 그들에게 “무슨 일로 이 사람을 고소하시오?” 하고 물었다.

30 그러자 그들은 “이 사람이 악한 일을 하지 않았다면 우리가 당신에게 넘기지 않았을 것입니다” 하고 대답하였다.

31 그때 빌라도가 “그를 데리고 가서 당신들의 법대로 재판하시오” 하자 유대인들이 “우리에게는 사람을 죽이는 권한이 없습니다” 하고 대답하였다.

32 일이 이렇게 된 것은 예수님이 자기가 당하실 죽음에 대해서 이야기하신 그 말씀이 이루어지기 위해서였다.

33 그래서 빌라도는 다시 관저로 들어가서 예수님을 불러 물었다. “네가 유대인의 왕이냐?”

34 “그것이 네 생각이냐, 아니면 다른 사람들이 나에 대해서 너에게 한 말이냐?”

35 “너는 내가 유대인이라고 생각하느냐? 네 동족과 대제사장들이 너를 나에게 넘겼다. 도대체 네가 무슨 짓을 했느냐?”

36 “내 나라는 이 세상에 속하지 않았다. 만일 내 나라가 이 세상에 속했다면 내 종들이 싸워 내가 유대인들에게 넘어가지 않게 했을 것이다. 그러나 내 나라는 이 세상에 속한 것이 아니다.”

37 “그렇다면 네가 왕이란 말이냐?” “그렇다. 네 말대로 나는 왕이다. 사실 나는 진리를 증거하려고 났으며 이것을 위해 세상에 왔다. 누구든지 [d]진리의 편에 선 사람은 내 말을 듣는다.”

38 그때 빌라도는 “진리가 무엇이냐?” 하였다. 그러고서 그는 다시 밖으로 나가서 유대인들에게 말하였다. “나는 그에게서 아무 죄도 찾지 못하였소.

39 유월절이 되면 내가 여러분에게 죄수 하나를 석방하는 전례가 있는데 여러분은 내가 유대인의 왕을 놓아 주기를 원하시오?”

40 그러자 그들은 큰 소리로 “그 사람이 아닙니다. 바라바를 놓아 주십시오” 하고 외쳤다. 바라바는 강도였다.

Jesus Arrested

18 When he had finished praying, Jesus left with his disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was a garden, and he and his disciples went into it.

2 Now Judas, who betrayed him, knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with his disciples. 3 So Judas came to the garden, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and the Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons.

4 Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, “Who is it you want?”

5 “Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied.

“I am he,” Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.) 6 When Jesus said, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground.

7 Again he asked them, “Who is it you want?”

“Jesus of Nazareth,” they said.

8 Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. If you are looking for me, then let these men go.” 9 This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: “I have not lost one of those you gave me.”[a]

10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.)

11 Jesus commanded Peter, “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?”

12 Then the detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus. They bound him 13 and brought him first to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest that year. 14 Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jewish leaders that it would be good if one man died for the people.

Peter’s First Denial

15 Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Because this disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard, 16 but Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the servant girl on duty there and brought Peter in.

17 “You aren’t one of this man’s disciples too, are you?” she asked Peter.

He replied, “I am not.”

18 It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm. Peter also was standing with them, warming himself.

The High Priest Questions Jesus

19 Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching.

20 “I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus replied. “I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret. 21 Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said.”

22 When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face. “Is this the way you answer the high priest?” he demanded.

23 “If I said something wrong,” Jesus replied, “testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me?” 24 Then Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.

Peter’s Second and Third Denials

25 Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still standing there warming himself. So they asked him, “You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?”

He denied it, saying, “I am not.”

26 One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, challenged him, “Didn’t I see you with him in the garden?” 27 Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow.

Jesus Before Pilate

28 Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace, because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover. 29 So Pilate came out to them and asked, “What charges are you bringing against this man?”

30 “If he were not a criminal,” they replied, “we would not have handed him over to you.”

31 Pilate said, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.”

“But we have no right to execute anyone,” they objected. 32 This took place to fulfill what Jesus had said about the kind of death he was going to die.

33 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”

34 “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?”

35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?”

36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”

37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.

Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”

38 “What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him. 39 But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the Passover. Do you want me to release ‘the king of the Jews’?”

40 They shouted back, “No, not him! Give us Barabbas!” Now Barabbas had taken part in an uprising.

Arresto de Jesús

18 Cuando Jesús terminó de orar, salió con sus discípulos y cruzó el arroyo de Cedrón. Al otro lado había un huerto en el que entró con sus discípulos.

2 También Judas, el que lo traicionaba, conocía aquel lugar porque muchas veces Jesús se había reunido allí con sus discípulos. 3 Así que Judas llegó al huerto, a la cabeza de un destacamento[a] de soldados y guardias de los jefes de los sacerdotes y de los fariseos. Llevaban antorchas, lámparas y armas.

4 Jesús, que sabía todo lo que iba a suceder, les salió al encuentro.

—¿A quién buscan? —preguntó.

5 —A Jesús de Nazaret —contestaron.

Jesús dijo:

—Yo soy.

Judas, el traidor, también estaba con ellos. 6 Cuando Jesús dijo: “Yo soy”, dieron un paso atrás y se desplomaron.

7 —¿A quién buscan? —volvió a preguntar Jesús.

—A Jesús de Nazaret —repitieron.

8 Jesús contestó:

—Ya dije que yo soy. Si es a mí a quien buscan, dejen que estos se vayan.

9 Esto sucedió para que se cumpliera lo que había dicho: «De los que me diste ninguno se perdió».[b]

10 Simón Pedro, que tenía una espada, la desenfundó e hirió al siervo del sumo sacerdote, cortándole la oreja derecha. (El siervo se llamaba Malco).

11 —¡Vuelve esa espada a su funda! —ordenó Jesús a Pedro—. ¿Acaso no he de beber el trago amargo que el Padre me da a beber?

Jesús ante Anás

12 Entonces los soldados, su comandante y los guardias de los judíos arrestaron a Jesús. Lo ataron 13 y lo llevaron primeramente a Anás, que era suegro de Caifás, el sumo sacerdote de aquel año. 14 Caifás era el que había aconsejado a los judíos que les convenía más que muriera un solo hombre por el pueblo.

Pedro niega a Jesús

15 Simón Pedro y otro discípulo seguían a Jesús. Y, como el otro discípulo era conocido del sumo sacerdote, entró en el patio del sumo sacerdote con Jesús; 16 Pedro, en cambio, tuvo que quedarse afuera, junto a la puerta. El discípulo conocido del sumo sacerdote volvió entonces a salir, habló con la portera de turno y consiguió que Pedro entrara.

17 —¿No eres tú también uno de los discípulos de ese hombre? —le preguntó la portera.

—No lo soy —respondió Pedro.

18 Los criados y los guardias estaban de pie alrededor de una fogata que habían hecho para calentarse, pues hacía frío. Pedro también estaba de pie con ellos, calentándose.

Jesús ante el sumo sacerdote

19 Mientras tanto, el sumo sacerdote interrogaba a Jesús acerca de sus discípulos y de su enseñanza.

20 —Yo he hablado abiertamente al mundo —respondió Jesús—. Siempre he enseñado en las sinagogas o en el Templo, donde se congregan todos los judíos. En secreto no he dicho nada. 21 ¿Por qué me interrogas a mí? ¡Interroga a los que me han oído hablar! Ellos deben saber lo que dije.

22 Apenas dijo esto, uno de los guardias que estaba allí cerca le dio una bofetada y le dijo:

—¿Así contestas al sumo sacerdote?

23 —Si he dicho algo malo —respondió Jesús—, demuéstramelo. Pero si lo que dije es correcto, ¿por qué me pegas?

24 Entonces Anás lo envió,[c] todavía atado, a Caifás, el sumo sacerdote.

Pedro niega de nuevo a Jesús

25 Mientras tanto, Simón Pedro seguía de pie, calentándose.

—¿No eres tú también uno de sus discípulos? —le preguntaron.

—¡No lo soy! —dijo Pedro, negándolo.

26 —¿Acaso no te vi en el huerto con él? —insistió uno de los siervos del sumo sacerdote, pariente de aquel a quien Pedro le había cortado la oreja.

27 Pedro volvió a negarlo y en ese instante cantó el gallo.

Jesús ante Pilato

28 Luego los judíos llevaron a Jesús de la casa de Caifás al palacio del gobernador romano.[d] Como ya amanecía, los judíos no entraron en el palacio, pues de hacerlo se contaminarían ritualmente y no podrían comer la Pascua. 29 Así que Pilato salió a interrogarlos:

—¿De qué delito acusan a este hombre?

30 —Si no fuera un malhechor —respondieron—, no se lo habríamos entregado.

31 —Pues llévenselo ustedes y júzguenlo según su propia ley —les dijo Pilato.

—Nosotros no tenemos ninguna autoridad para ejecutar a nadie —objetaron los judíos.

32 Esto sucedió para que se cumpliera lo que Jesús dijo sobre la clase de muerte que iba a sufrir.

33 Pilato volvió a entrar en el palacio y llamó a Jesús.

—¿Eres tú el rey de los judíos? —le preguntó.

34 —¿Eso lo dices tú —respondió Jesús— o es que otros te han hablado de mí?

35 —¿Acaso soy judío? —respondió Pilato—. Han sido tu propio pueblo y los jefes de los sacerdotes los que te entregaron a mí. ¿Qué has hecho?

36 —Mi reino no es de este mundo —contestó Jesús—. Si lo fuera, mis propios guardias pelearían para impedir que los judíos me arrestaran. Pero mi reino no es de este mundo.

37 —¡Así que eres rey! —le dijo Pilato.

Jesús contestó:

—Eres tú quien dice que soy rey. Yo para esto nací y para esto vine al mundo: para dar testimonio de la verdad. Todo el que está de parte de la verdad escucha mi voz.

38 —¿Y qué es la verdad? —preguntó Pilato.

Dicho esto, salió otra vez a ver a los judíos.

—Yo no encuentro que este sea culpable de nada —declaró—. 39 Pero como ustedes tienen la costumbre de que suelte a un preso durante la Pascua, ¿quieren que suelte al rey de los judíos?

40 —¡No, no sueltes a ese! ¡Suelta a Barrabás! —volvieron a gritar.

Y Barrabás era un insurgente.[e]

耶稣被捕

18 耶稣说完了这些话，就和门徒出去，过了汲沦溪。在那里有一个园子，耶稣和门徒进去了。 2 出卖耶稣的犹大也知道那地方，因为耶稣和门徒常常在那里聚集。 3 那时，犹大带着一队兵，还有祭司长和法利赛人的差役，拿着灯笼、火把、武器，来到园子里。 4 耶稣知道快要临到他身上的一切事，就出来对他们说：“你们找谁？” 5 他们回答：“拿撒勒人耶稣！”耶稣说：“我就是。”出卖耶稣的犹大和他们站在那里。 6 耶稣一说“我就是”，他们就往后退，倒在地上。 7 他再问他们：“你们找谁？”他们说：“拿撒勒人耶稣！” 8 耶稣回答：“我已经告诉你们，我就是了。如果你们来找我，就让这些人走吧。” 9 这应验了耶稣说过的话：“你赐给我的人，我一个也没有失落。” 10 西门．彼得带着一把刀，就拔出来，向大祭司的仆人马勒古砍去，削掉他的右耳。 11 耶稣对彼得说：“把刀收入鞘里去！父给我的杯，我怎能不喝呢？”

大祭司审问耶稣

12 于是那一队兵和千夫长，以及犹太人的差役拿住耶稣，把他绑起来， 13 先带到亚那面前。亚那是当年的大祭司该亚法的岳父。 14 该亚法就是从前向犹太人提议说“一个人代替人民死，这是有益的”那个人。

彼得首次不认主

15 西门．彼得和另一个门徒跟着耶稣；那门徒是大祭司认识的。他跟耶稣一起进了大祭司的院子， 16 彼得却站在门外。大祭司所认识的那门徒出来，对看门的婢女说了一声，就带了彼得进去。 17 那看门的婢女对彼得说：“你不也是这个人的门徒吗？”他说：“我不是。” 18 因为天气寒冷，仆人和差役就生了炭火，站着取暖；彼得也和他们站在一起取暖。

公议会审问耶稣

19 那时，大祭司查问耶稣有关他的门徒和他的教训的事。 20 耶稣对大祭司说：“我向来对世人讲话都是公开的，我常常在会堂和圣殿里，就是在所有犹太人聚集的地方教导人，暗地里我并没有讲甚么。 21 你为甚么查问我呢？问问那些听过我讲话的人吧，他们知道我讲过甚么。” 22 耶稣说了这些话，站在旁边的一个差役，就打他一巴掌，说：“你竟敢这样回答大祭司吗？” 23 耶稣对他说：“如果我讲错了，你可以指证错在哪里；如果我讲对了，你为甚么打我呢？” 24 亚那仍然绑着耶稣，把他押到大祭司该亚法那里去。

彼得再三不认主

25 西门．彼得仍然站在火旁取暖。有人对他说：“你不也是他的门徒吗？”彼得否认说：“我不是。” 26 有一个大祭司的仆人，就是彼得削掉耳朵的那个人的亲戚，说：“我不是看见你跟他在园子里吗？” 27 彼得又否认，立刻鸡就叫了。

耶稣被押交彼拉多

28 清早的时候，犹太人把耶稣从该亚法那里押往总督的官邸。他们自己没有进到官邸里去，恐怕沾染了污秽，不能吃逾越节的晚餐。 29 于是彼拉多走到外面见他们，说：“你们控告这个人甚么呢？” 30 他们回答：“如果这个人没有作恶，我们就不会把他交给你。” 31 彼拉多对他们说：“你们自己把他带去，按着你们的律法审问他吧。”犹太人说：“我们没有权去判人死罪。” 32 这就应验了耶稣预先说到自己将要怎样死的那句话。 33 彼拉多又进了官邸，把耶稣叫来，问他说：“你是犹太人的王吗？” 34 耶稣回答：“这话是你自己说的，还是别人对你说到我的呢？” 35 彼拉多说：“难道我是犹太人吗？你本国的人和祭司长把你交给我，你究竟作了甚么事？” 36 耶稣回答：“我的国不属于这世界；如果我的国属于这世界，我的臣仆就要作战，使我不至被交给犹太人。不过，我的国不是这世上的。” 37 于是彼拉多问他：“那么，你是王吗？”耶稣说：“我是王，你已经说了（“你已经说了”或译：“这是你说的”）。我要为真理作见证，我为此而生，也为此来到世上。凡是属于真理的人，都听我的声音。” 38 彼拉多问他：“真理是甚么？”

彼拉多判耶稣钉十字架

彼拉多说了这话，又出来见犹太人，对他们说：“我查不出他有甚么罪。 39 你们有个惯例，每逢逾越节，要我给你们释放一个囚犯。你们愿意我给你们释放这个犹太人的王吗？” 40 他们又喊叫说：“不要他！要巴拉巴！”这巴拉巴是个强盗。
